When I first arrived in Whistler my goal was to photograph ski film superstars. That goal was accomplished in my first winter when I photographed Matchstick Productions’ spring kicker session for the classic film “The Hit List.” My first great success as a ski-photographer was from this session. The photo of Eric (Hoji) Hjorleifson taking flight over the mountain sunset, while the MSP heli whizzed past, gave me immeasurable motivation to continue my journey.
Another film crew I was proud to shoot alongside was Sherpas Cinema, during the filming of the ski-classic “Into The Mind.” The Olympics were taking place in the valley below and the slopes were nearly empty. It was a beautiful sunny powder day when Mike Douglas (The Godfather of Freeskiing) launched a huge backflip off of a huge cornice in the Blackcomb backcountry.
