Jasmine Noëlla-Burton editorial portrait

Action at Yoga Santosha
As a professional photographer based in Canmore, I’m lucky to be surrounded by some of the most stunning landscapes and dynamic personalities. Recently I had the privilege of working with Jasmine Noëlla-Burton again. She is an accomplished yoga instructor, fellow photographer, and incredible athlete. The portrait session was at the beautiful Yoga Santosha yoga studio in Calgary. This session was an exciting opportunity to create fresh, timeless portraits for Jasmine to use on her website, social media, and marketing materials.
Jasmine had previously used images from a past session several years ago, and while those photos had served her extremely well for all sorts of promotion and advertising, we both agreed it was time to update her portraits and bring new energy to her professional image. As we set out to capture her essence, we decided to take a mixed approach: traditional, classic portraits as well as action shots that would showcase both her grounded presence and athleticism.
The Yoga Santosha studio in Calgary proved to be the perfect location for our shoot. With large windows that bathed the space in soft, natural light, the studio’s inviting ambiance complemented Jasmine’s calm yet powerful energy. To enhance the light and create depth in the images, I mixed the natural sunlight with LED film lights — carefully designed to highlight the stunning flow and intensity of Jasmine’s poses.
We began with some traditional, classic portrait shots that would work beautifully for both print and web use. The combination of natural light and the warm studio space allowed me to capture Jasmine's quiet strength and serene presence. These portraits not only reflect her as a yoga instructor but also as a woman who lives her passion every day.
Then, we moved to action shots — moments where Jasmine’s agility and athleticism took centre stage. Yoga, at its core, is about balance and flow, and capturing those fleeting, graceful movements was truly inspiring. Whether she was in a precise, focused pose or flowing through a sequence, every shot reflected the dedication and discipline that Jasmine brings to her practice.

What’s so special about these portraits is how they showcase the multifaceted nature of Jasmine. As a high-level yoga instructor, she embodies both physical strength and emotional balance. These images go beyond simply showing what she looks like — they capture the essence of who she is: a creative, grounded, and deeply dedicated individual — and that’s exactly what I strive to achieve in every portrait session — capturing not just the face, but the story and spirit behind it.
This shoot reminded me of how wonderful it can be to step into the next chapter, even when the past portraits seemed impossible to beat. The result was a collection of images that felt fresh, modern, and timeless — photos that will serve Jasmine’s professional identity for years to come or even sooner when we do it again!
